About the area
1 Greta Cottage is ideally located between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks, enabling you to explore the magnitude of unrivalled scenery, interesting Country Houses, Castles and Historic market towns.
Kirkby Lonsdale is one such Historic market town, an artists palate, with devils Bridge and Ruskins View over the beautiful river Lune. The town has many interesting shops, galleries, cafes and public houses.
Drive another twenty minutes and you are in the Lake District the home to Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. A truly inspirational area of outstanding natural beauty in all the seasons.
The Yorkshire Dales begin at Ingleton, two miles away with its many interesting features including the spectacular Waterfalls Walk and caves. For the more advantageous try walking one or all of the mountains of the Three Peaks; Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen y Ghent.
Other villages include Dent with its cobbled streets and new for 2006 an excellent Heritage Museum, well worth a visit.
Hawes has the renowned Wensleydale cheese factory, with shop and restaurant.
Bentham, another traditional market town is the starting point to Burnmoor and a very scenic drive through the Trough of Bowland.
Burton-in-Lonsdale is in a perfect location to explore the diversity of natural beauty be it the Lakes, Dales or the west coast.
